Wave of Light Walk

South Australian families will come together for Red Tree Foundation’s Wave of Light walk in Adelaide on Thursday 15 October 2026, remembering pregnancies, babies, children and teenagers whose lives were lost too soon.

Held on International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, the free community walk offers families and loved ones a dedicated time to remember, reflect and connect with others who understand the experience of grief and loss.

Now in its second year, the Wave of Light walk will begin at Veale Gardens in the Adelaide CBD, with participants encouraged to wear a touch of red.

The Wave of Light is a special remembrance event for South Australians who have experienced the sudden or unexpected loss of a pregnancy, baby, child or teenager.

Pregnancy and infant loss can be an incredibly isolating experience, despite affecting many Australian families. The walk creates an opportunity for grieving families to come together alongside friends, loved ones, nurses and healthcare professionals to honour and remember those who have died.

Red Tree Foundation General Manager Rachel Thompson said the event helps raise awareness of a type of grief that can often go unseen.

The Wave of Light walk shines a light on an issue that affects so many but often goes unspoken.

For many families, this unimaginable loss is met with silence. By gathering on this occasion, families, loved ones, nurses and healthcare professionals stand together to honour the lives of those who were loved so deeply and farewelled too soon, Ms Thompson said.

As part of the 2026 Wave of Light, landmarks across South Australia will be illuminated in red on 15 October to recognise International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.

Participating landmarks include:

Adelaide Oval
Adelaide Railway Station
Adelaide Town Hall
Parliament House
Riverbank Precinct Pedestrian Bridge

Gawler Civic Centre
