Women’s & Children’s Hospital Playground – Now Open

The brand-new playground at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide is officially open and families are already making joyful memories in this inclusive and purpose-built space.

Children at the opening celebration explored the playground’s exciting new features, including interactive sensory panels, balance and strength building apparatus, and inclusive play structures such as a wheelchair accessible carousel. Thoughtfully designed with every child in mind, the playground supports the physical, developmental and therapeutic needs of patients and families.

Whether climbing, laughing, or exploring, the opening day highlighted the vital role this playground will play for families at the Hospital. Children undergoing treatment and their siblings have a space to play, recover, and feel like kids again. Parents and carers have a spot to rest, connect, and enjoy small but powerful moments of relief during what can be long and challenging days.

The redevelopment was made possible thanks to the incredible generosity of donors, supporters, and community partners.

The WCH Foundation is proud to support projects like this, which enhance the patient experience and support the emotional and social wellbeing of children and their families.

Upgrade Plans published 4 June 2025:

Big Plans for Little Kids at the Women’s & Children’s Hospital.

The WCH Foundation has big plans and they need your help to bring them to life.  If you want to make a real difference, this is it.

For over two decades the playground located in the heart of the Women’s and Children’s Hospital has supported countless families, but it’s no longer meeting the needs of the children who rely on it.   They want to build a playground that supports therapy, movement, inclusion and recovery.  The current equipment is limited, particularly for children with a disability.

This is more than a playground.  It’s about creating a space that shapes a child’s whole hospital journey: how they feel, how they heal, what they remember. Help is needed to build a space where children can truly thrive.

To help reach their goal of $200,000 to make this vision a reality, the WCH Foundation is asking for donations.

Every year, more than 300,000 children and families rely on the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. For many of them, the playground is part of that experience. A place to reset between appointments, to recover after treatment, or simply to feel like a child again.

It is used by therapists, hospital school teachers, siblings and support workers. It is the one space in the hospital designed entirely for children, and it plays a different role in every child’s journey.

You can play your part and donate today here.
