Current highlights include the Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize, Curiosity Lab sessions for kids, and special holiday programming running through April.

Whether you’re popping in for an hour or planning a full day out, it’s an easy way to keep kids curious and entertained – with something new to discover each visit.

What’s on at the SA Museum during the April school holidays?

Brainy Games

Play games covering a wide range of topics, including understanding how we use logic to think, show our emotions, recognise other people, and how we use someone’s appearance to make decisions about them. This activity is always a hit and is run by the Adelaide University’s School of Psychology.

Monday 13 to Friday 17 April 2026 | Cost: FREE

Curiosity Lab: Build-a-Bug with Dr Shasta

Learn all about insects with the Museum’s very own entomologist, Dr Shasta Henry. In this 90-minute workshop, kids will learn the basics of insect anatomy, design and build their own insect friend to take home, and go on an insect hunt.

Tuesday 21 April 2026 | Cost: $20 per child

Curiosity Lab: Intro to Insect Pinning

Join Dr Shasta again for a crash course in insect identification before heading back to the classroom to examine a scientific sample of insects and learning the art of insect setting. Each participant will get to take home their pinned insect in a small display box.

Thursday 23 April 2026 | Cost: $30 per child

2026 Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize Exhibition

Art and science collide in the 2026 Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize exhibition. This fascinating exhibition brings together a rich and diverse survey of 74 outstanding works that invite us to think about our environment and our impact on the natural world. 

Friday 10 April to Sunday 19 July 2026 | Cost: $15 for adults | $12 for concession, seniors and students | FREE for children aged 12 and under

South Australian Museum Discovery Centre

The Discovery Centre is a special place for people of all ages to feed their curiosity with endless wonders to discover – like insects, fossils, meteorites and even a beehive.

It is open to the public from 10:30am to 2:30pm on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Cost: FREE
