Going Screen Free
Going screen free can seem daunting, but we have plenty of ideas on Play & Go and the Kinderling team is on hand to help you, with programming full of tips and activities, including:
- Play & Learn: for creative listening fun;
- Kinderling Conversation: For expert advice on digital detoxing, learning about the long-term impacts of screens and more;
- A brand new Story of the Week premiering Friday October 20 at 5pm;
- And get everyone moving with Kinderling’s annual Family Dance-Off on Saturday 21 October 2017 at 3pm.
Some of Kinderling’s best friends are also joining in the Screen Free Challenge fun, including Peter Combe, Lah-Lah, Benny Time, Angie Who, One Handed Cooks, Amy Taylor-Kabbaz, Nay Nay, Dr Kristy Goodwin and more.
Screen time is a fact of modern life but families need to be conscious of when over-use can replace other activities that are integral to childhood development. In 2016, Kinderling was the first childhood-focussed organisation to launch this initiative, which has subsequently been adopted by Government and other education-based institutions around Australia.
Kinderling’s top tips to help you Unplug and Play are:
- Create a new morning routine that doesn’t involve screens
- Make your meal time screen-free
- Encourage sensory play to keep your children occupied when you need to get things done
- Limit your own screen time in front of the children
The Kinderling #ScreenFreeChallenge runs from Sunday 15 October to Sunday 5 November 2017.
