World Children’s Day | 20 Nov 2025

World Children’s Day 2025 – Let’s get loud to make Australia an even better place for every child.

Every year on 20 November is the celebration of World Children’s Day. This special day marks the anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, where governments (including Australia) agreed on 54 different rights that every child under 18 years old should have to live a safe, healthy and happy life.

On World Children’s Day, UNICEF Australia encourages students of all ages to make some noise about the issues that matter most to them and this year, the spotlight is something that close to every child’s heart – play!

This year they are encouraging us to celebrate play with A Minute of Loudness.

They believe that every child should have the chance to speak up about issues they care about. It’s their future, but too often their voices aren’t heard. On World Children’s Day, let’s turn the volume up on what they have to say.

Article 12 of the Convention of the Rights of the Child states that:

Children have the right to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts.

This World Children’s Day, they invite every child in Australia to speak up through A Minute of Loudness, where they’re encouraged to share their ideas on how to make Australia an even better place for all children, especially when it comes to play.

Every child has the right to play – no matter who they are or where they live. Playing helps you learn, make friends, and feel happy.

Right now, millions of children are missing out on this basic right, because of conflict, displacement, inequality or lack of safe spaces. When you protect a child’s right to play, you’re protecting their right to a full, inclusive, healthy and happy childhood.

How you can take part in A Minute of Loudness

All preschools, schools and children’s community groups across Australia are encouraged to register.  When you sign up, you’ll receive age-appropriate lesson plans developed by an education specialist and fun ideas for how to celebrate the day.

Fundraising to help UNICEF support children around the world is a great way to add extra meaning to your World Children’s Day celebrations. Set up an online fundraising page and get started today.
