Australia’s first world class Aerial Adventure Park is set to launch in Adelaide in November 2015.
The MegaAdventure Aerial Park is situated at Adelaide Shores in West Beach. It is a collaboration over the last two years between the MegaAdventure Group and Adelaide Shores which has brought this project to South Australia and is a wonderful win for our state.
The philosophy behind this $2M development is the brainchild of Alex Blyth, the Global CEO and founder of MegaAdventure Group, and is all about bringing an adventure experience into an urban environment where it is accessible to many people. It’s about getting people off the X-Box and away from screens to do something active and fun.
The SkyMate is the main structure you can’t miss when you get there. It is 26 metres tall and 40 metres in diameter. It will launch with 50 crossings and can support up to 120 fun and exciting adventure challenges such as suspension bridges, swings, ziplines and free-falls. There is pedestrian access on very safe stairs and walkways for those observing. As someone who is not great with heights I felt quite safe and ok walking up the stairs and taking advantage of the beautiful view at the top.
There will be no nets added to the structure. You are suspended from a line and the state of the art harnesses that are being used will keep you safe – the open structure will enhance the feeling of being very free and floaty in the air.
“It hasn’t been done before – the number of features in this design makes it one of the largest in the world, and the technology used by the designers from Touch Cloud Global to build the SkyMate is the first of it’s kind – it’s groundbreaking,” Blyth said.
Some information for families:
Children need to be a minimum of 1.2 metres tall and 20kg in weight to be able to play on the SkyMate. Kids under 1.4 metres tall will need an adult to be actively supervising them on the structure ie they can’t go on by themselves.
The crossings will be graded like ski slopes, from easy to challenging, so will be accessible for people of all ages and abilities. If you’re not keen to have a go you can still climb the very safe steps and enjoy the views across Adelaide from the top, and watch the others, while keeping your feet firmly on the platform. You won’t need to have a harness if you are just observing.
The aim is to make this experience as universal as possible. As well as thrill-seekers they will welcome families, work groups, educational programs, schools and parties. There are even plans for the opportunity to host dinners at the top of the structure to take in the views.
There will be a bungee trampoline for littlies who are too young for the SkyMate.
A cafe will be on site too. This is all adjacent to the many facilities of Adelaide Shores so this will be a great activity for anyone staying there. West Beach Mini Golf is also right next door. Just a note – you do not need to be staying at Adelaide Shores to go to Mega Adventure Park.
The MegaAdventure Park will be open from Friday 27 November 2015. Cost is from $5 per person to take a walk on the SkyMate and watch. Tickets for the MegaAdventure SkyChallenge where you get to take on all 4 levels of the SkyMate Aerial Obstacle course start from around $45.60. It’s cheaper to book online (5% discount).
