Why is it worth seeing Disney on Ice?
Disney on Ice is a favourite for us. We’ve been taking our kids over the last 15 years and still look forward to it each show. This is one of the best value live shows around with ticket prices far cheaper than the equivalent seats at a Disney theatre show.
With all the Disneyland Parks being far from Australia, this is one way to get a taste of the Disney magic and see Disney Princesses and other popular characters. It’s like Disney coming to you, instead of you going all the way overseas to see it. If you’ve been lucky enough to visit a Disneyland Park before, then you’ll know how amazing it is and Disney on Ice will let you re-visit some of those memories.
The show is different each year. Sure, there will be some aspects that are repeated (for example we’ve had songs from Frozen for the past few years) but even when they do repeat a segment it is always refreshed and updated so it’s a bit different from before. Plus they’re classic songs so you don’t mind seeing them again anyway.
When it comes to costumes, sets and special effects, Disney know their stuff and they dream big – you can be assured every aspect will be spectacular, with great attention to detail.
The performers are very talented ice skaters – many are ex champions in their field. They effortlessly pull off those amazing and breathtaking ice skating tricks that you only get to see during the Winter Olympics on TV.
The show appeals to all ages. Little ones are in awe, older kids know all the characters and songs to sing along, parents get to share the magic with their kids, and grandparents also love it too. It’s the one show my mother (in her 70s) will come along with us to see each year (and she rarely wants to go to shows).
Disney on Ice is one to put on your bucket list to go and see at least once during your kid’s childhood. If your family love Disney films, this is a must visit to see characters and stories come alive on the ice in a really spectacular way.

*NOTES & TIPS FOR DISNEY ON ICE*
Here are some notes & tips if you are going to Disney On Ice for the first time, (or thinking about going):
❄️ Boys love it just as much as girls. The show is not all about Princesses.
❄️ People often ask if it’s cold in there – actually it’s surprisingly not cold at all – we usually all take our jackets off. It is a bit cooler if you are sitting very close to the rink.
❄️ Yes Princesses, Princes and Disney characters are all welcome! It’s the perfect chance to put on your Disney ears; and for kids to get dressed in their special Princess dress, Prince or other Disney outfit.
With Princesses “the cold doesn’t bother them anyway,” but they could wear a cardigan or jacket for outside, which they can easily take off once inside.
❄️ Children under 2 yrs old do not need a ticket if sitting on your lap but bear in mind the show is 2 hrs long (with a 15 minutes intermission) so can be a long time for a little one to sit still.
❄️ The music is quite loud for little ears and there may be some pyrotechnic effects with blasts or explosions.
❄️ Be aware that there are plenty of stalls selling Disney merchandise in the foyer and inside the theatre as well. They are very attractive to little people.
❄️ You can take your own little snacks there. In the past you could take small water bottles but in recent times this has not been allowed (baby bottles are of course ok). Security do a bag check when entering. Large bags are not allowed but nappy bags are fine.
❄️ Allow around 15-20 minutes for parking. There’s always a line-up for parking in the Entertainment Centre car park. Don’t forget there is also parking across the road in the DK Fabric car park and the one off East Street. Sometimes the car parks are operated by charities and the money collected goes straight to them. Don’t forget to take cash for parking.
❄️ At the end of each show, during the finale, if you’re on the lower area of the Entertainment Centre you can go up close to the edge of the stage to wave goodbye to all the stars of the show. If you’re close enough you may even get a hi-five. Just be aware that many people come down from their seats to do this so keep an eye on your kids – it can get a bit manic. This is one of the reasons why you may like to get seats in the lower sections.
