City of Onkaparinga Council Libraries

If you live in or near the City of Onkaparinga you can easily access any of the six council libraries at Aberfoyle Park (Hub), Aldinga, Noarlunga, Seaford, Willunga and Woodcroft. These council libraries have a great range of books, toys and games available and a great mix of clubs and programs for babies, children and teens.

Books, Toys and Resources

You can borrow physical books, magazines, DVDs, audiobooks, CDs for adults, teens and children and have access to eBooks, eMagazines and eAudiobooks.

There is also a collection of books for children printed in Dyslexie font that help children with dyslexia become confident readers.

Their major source of eBooks, Overdrive, includes a large collection of Premier’s Reading Challenge books and these can be easily converted into Dyslexie font with larger print.

Four of the City of Onkaparinga’s council libraries have sports collections where people can borrow specialised equipment including tennis racquets, basketballs, cricket bats and equipment to promote physical activity for children and families.

Hub, Seaford and Woodcroft Libraries have Toy Libraries with 4-week loans for a range of toys designed to stimulate children’s development and skill through play.

The City of Onkaparinga council libraries have access to PlayStation, X-Boxes, iPads and games and you can always find something to do in their libraries.

Programs & Clubs

Babytime, Toddlertime and Storytime sessions will recommence in the first week of November. These fun and interactive sessions engage children and their caregivers with reading and literacy without them even realising it. These sessions use music, songs and books to engage children with language and books.

For older children, there are after school clubs including the MakerLabs and book clubs. Children who attend MakerLab can access a range of technologies that develop skills in science, technology, engineering, arts and maths. Their book clubs aim to provide an environment where children can meet and share their interests in reading and books.

Also on offer is an Anime and Manga club – a safe space for teens who love all things anime and manga. Each month, teens can watch a mix of classic and new anime, and attendees are welcome to chat, draw, or just hang out quietly – all are welcome!

The ‘1001 Books Before School’ program is accessible online and inhouse and encourages a lifelong love of reading in little ones by encouraging shared reading experiences before starting school.

The Mayor’s Summer Reading Club is available to all school-aged children during the Summer holidays. This program challenges children to continue reading over the summer holidays. This helps to address the ‘summer slide’ reading loss which is often experienced by children when they return to school after a long break.

School holiday activities. The council libraries have a variety of STEM and literacy-based activities available during school holidays. These activities are usually free of charge and provide a fun learning experience for children.

Onkaparinga council libraries host a Children’s University school and there are classes based in Aldinga and Woodcroft Libraries. Children can’t aspire to what they don’t know, and the Children’s University encourages children to participate in a range of activities designed to stretch their skills and imaginations.

Aldinga Library

Aldinga Library is a modern, vibrant space, providing free access to a range of resources and activities. The reading cubby is a hit with younger children, older kids will love hanging out or reading in the beanbag chairs, and teens will love having their own dedicated youth space, complete with a gaming area.
