Bakery O’Connell Cronut Cones & Bakery Treats | North Adelaide

Bakery O’Connell – where you can go any time day or night for a bite to eat or a pastry treat.

Bakery O’Connell is an Adelaide institution (established in 2003) which has been relied on for always being open. While it’s popular for breakfast, lunch or dinner, it’s also great for those times when you want to get a coffee and maybe dessert after you’ve outstayed your restaurant visit; after some sport event or concert when you didn’t have time to eat beforehand; or that awkward time in the late afternoon when lunch places have closed and dinner places haven’t opened yet.  Handy for shift workers too. They are open 24 hours so you can go any time.

The bakery is well known for its pies, pastries, cakes, donuts and other treats. They also make sandwiches, rolls, wraps and salads. Our kids also love their old fashioned thick shakes made with real ice cream. It’s always busy and there’s a constant turnover of product so things are pretty fresh.

Cronut Cones are back!

It’s been a while since Cronut Cones have been available and now, probably due to popular demand, they are back again! We were pretty keen to visit again when we heard this news. We visited in January 2021 – we don’t know how long they will be available for.

The Cronut Cone is served with Nutella or berries in the bottom, soft serve ice cream (Golden North), then topped with Ice Magic. You can of course have it without the extras (as per mine below).

If you’re not familiar with a cronut – it’s basically a cross between a donut and a croissant – tastes like a donut but a bit flakier like a croissant. The cronut is made in the shape of an ice cream cone, covered in sugar on the outside, and it’s filled with toppings and ice cream.

This is the Nutella at the bottom of the cone (below).

Not going to lie – Cronut Cones are a messy thing to eat. You need to eat that soft serve quickly before it melts down your arm. Then tackling the cronut cone without getting sugar all over your face and body is not easy. But for Cronut Cone lovers – the effort is worth it. Also don’t go with a full stomach – it’s a big dessert!

Having wet wipes with you to clean up after is highly recommended. Maybe a giant bib would help too. ?

If Cronut Cones don’t float your boat, then don’t worry, there’s a huge selection of other yummy treats.  One thing we love about Bakery O’Connell is that they do mini versions of some treats eg mini donuts, small Kitchener buns and mini jelly cakes. These are great if you just want a little treat and a perfect size for kids.  They also have mini pies and pasties too if you just want a small bite.

See our pics below for some of their huge selection.

Flavoured Cronuts

The bakery also make different types of cronuts, changing this up all the time – for example the Milo TimTam Summer Slam Cronut pictured below or the Iced Vovo Cronut pictured above.

There is seating both inside and outside. Please note that some of these pics were taken pre-covid so they may be showing more tables and chairs than is currently available due to restrictions.

Bakery O’Connell is an old favourite. There’s so much to choose from you’ll find something for everyone.
