Godzilla vs. Kong (M) | Review

Godzilla vs. Kong is the long-awaited follow-up to Legendary Entertainment’s series of MonsterVerse Films: Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017) and Godzilla: King of Monsters (2019).

This time, audiences get to see both Godzilla and Kong on screen as they collide in some awesome, action packed earth-shattering battles. If you’ve been keeping up with the series so far, it’s a must-see to find out how everything plays out. It’s totally ridiculous but highly entertaining, especially if you love action movies and monsters. You definitely have to suspend your disbelief for this one and revel in the silliness. We were a bit lost in the plot but found ourselves enjoying it regardless. It’s something that’s lots of fun after not having many movies releasing in cinemas the past year.

The graphics of cityscape and ocean fights are very impressive and and the scenes with the flying technology were particularly awe-inspiring. We found ourselves with our eyes glued to the screen!

There is also a full cast of talented and familiar actors including Alexander Skarsgård (Big Little Lies, The Little Drummer Girl), Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Rebecca Hall (Christine, Professor Marston and the Wonder Women), Brian Tyree Henry (Joker, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) and Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Deadpool 2) just to name a few. It was also great to see the debut of Kaylee Hottle, a talented young deaf actress who plays a deaf girl who can communicate with Kong and uses sign language throughout the film.

We also noticed there was a nod to ‘Stranger Things’ with Millie Bobby Brown in a role that’s very similar, complete with a geeky companions (Julian Dennison and Brian Tyree Henry).

This is one that would obviously be quite frightening for any younger ones (or anyone who is easily scared!) but a lot of the violence is fantasy-themed rather than realistic. There is no sex, swearing or blood but quite graphic fighting scenes between giant creatures and the demise of humans, planes, ships and buildings that got in the way. The entire movie is also quite loud. It is rated M for science fiction themes and action violence.

Releases in cinemas 25 March 2021.
