Adventure on South Terrace | Glover Playground Review

South Terrace Glover Playground

South Terrace Glover Playground | Review 2013

The South Terrace Glover Playground in Adelaide has recently had an upgrade. It gets a tick for being fully fenced already but now with some new equipment added, which is especially interesting for kids aged from about 7 years upwards (or agile younger kids) it is a great play space for children of all ages.

For example, an ever popular flying fox is a new addition here. This one is a little different to others we are familiar with, as it has an elevated platform to climb up and embark from. Therefore it starts off quite high off the ground. Adults will need to help bring the seat back to the start for younger kids because of this height.

Another main attraction is this swinging hoist. Yes, it’s like a Hills Hoist clothes line (which many of us have swung around on before) but this one is actually designed specifically for swinging on! Designed for two, one person on each end, it can fly around pretty fast so be sure that your child can hold on tight! Many parents have been seen on one end of this too, with arms above, holding on, running around and working up a sweat. Remember to wear a long top!

The climbing net is a great challenge for those little monkeys who like to get up high.

The main play set has a large variety of climbing, balancing and sliding options to keep kids busy.

Younger children do need to be supervised as the high bridge and the chain rope bridge have large gaps in between.

Kids who are old enough to manoeuvre this obstacle course can spend a lot of time here as there are so many ways of getting up, down and across.

There are all sorts of engaging little finds which allow kids to use their imagination and encourage gross motor skills.

There is a twin set of swings, another twin set of baby swings, a tyre swing and a Liberty Swing (for wheelchairs) as well.

A brightly coloured caterpillar tunnel, rope bridge and sand pit are located on the other side of the playground.

There are a lot of grassy areas for picnics and running around, some trees for shade, a few picnic tables and toilets. There are currently no bbq facilities though and no sheltered areas. The Kurranga BMX Trails are just nearby and there are bbq facilities there. Fasta Pasta is also on the corner of Pulteney Street and South Terrace.

This is a great playground to stop off at if you’ve been in the city and heading home, or anytime as a destination play space. It has been developed into a great adventure playground which offers plenty to do for kids of different ages.
