Coastal Conservation Group’s action-packed Open Day at Wara Wayingga Tennyson Dunes.
This important coastal ecosystem spans over 22 hectares and contains over 50 indigenous plant species. It also provides critical habitat for native fauna, invertebrates, native birds and reptiles. The Dunes are a unique reminder of what the coastline looked like before European settlement.
Visitors are encouraged to sign up to free expert-led guided tours taking place throughout the day to learn about this rare and important ecosystem.
Open day activites include:
- Free guided tours
- Kids activities, including Animals Anonymous and Bugs ‘n’ Slugs, face painting and craft activities.
- Native coastal plant sale.
- Fun and fact-filled information stands.
- Stalls selling locally made, environmentally friendly gifts.
- BBQ and coffee stalls.

Tips to enjoy the Conservation Reserve:
- Enjoy the 1.5km Discovery Trail through the dunes.
- Listen and look out for Singing Honeyeater birds, Painted Dragon lizards and Nankeen Kestrels.
- Smell the beautiful perfume and enjoy the vibrant colours of native plants.
- Keep to the paths to protect the delicate ecosystem.
- Take only memories (and rubbish/litter) home with you. Please leave flowers, plants and animals in their home where they belong.
- A gold coin donation will secure you a native plant for your garden.

Getting There:
Parking is available at the Conservation Reserve and at Oarsmen Reserve near the rowing club. The event is also accessible by public transport and can be found between bus stops 32A – 32B on Military Road.
