Capella Drive Reserve Playground & Skate Park – Hallett Cove l Review

Capella Drive Reserve in Hallett Cove Playground, Skate Park, Bike Track – Review

By Jo Parkinson

Calling all kids who love to skate, scoot and ride…  the newly upgraded Capella Drive Reserve Playground is now complete and ready to check out!

The City of Marion’s Capella Drive Reserve Playground in Adelaide’s south is the perfect place to go and burn some energy. Spread out over a large area, there are two main sections. One includes a skate park, small pump track, rock climbing wall, ninja playground and basketball court. The other section has the new larger bike pump/jump track, slide, basket swing and flying fox.

Also new to the park is the addition of barbeques, shelters with seating, public toilets and lawned areas (perfect for picnics). A pathway connects all areas together. Central to both sections is an off-leash dog park where dogs are free to exercise, so be aware there may be dogs around.

Capella Drive Reserve Bike Pump Track

The new pump track is great for older children or people with more experience riding bikes and scooters. The track itself is a decent size, with lots of hills for jumping. Yellow markings painted on the track help with safety and visibility, to show where the jumps are. We noticed that the dirt around the track was super soft and muddy so keep in mind to stay off it as much as you can if you don’t want muddy shoes.

Next to this track is a large flying fox, slide and basket swing. We loved the rock feature leading up to the slide, making it extra fun when climbing to the top!

Ninja Course Playground

Following the path around, you will find yourself at the ninja course playground. This is perfect for any budding ninja warriors and is aimed at children aged 5 years or older. Let the kids challenge themselves on the monkey bars, quintuple steps, rock climbing wall and net.

Capella Drive Reserve Small Pump Track

Next up is the smaller pump track. The smoother hills make it a good place for beginners or younger children to ride bikes or scooters, and trees give some shade for adults while they are watching.

Capella Drive Reserve Skate Park

If skateboarding (or scooters!) is more your thing, head straight to the skate park. We love this skate park because of its spacious size, allowing users to spread out, and for its wide variety of elements such as grinding rails, bowl and mini half pipe. There is something here that caters to all abilities. Spectators can sit and watch the action on grass or rocks.

This area of the reserve is where you will also find the main car park, toilet block, drinking fountain, basketball court and huge rock-climbing obstacle. There’s also a grassed area and barbeque. The reserve is not fenced, however, most of it is not close to roads.

The latest additions to Capella Drive Reserve are fantastic and well thought out, as there is something for everyone and so much to do. It’s easy to spend a couple of hours there, and lots of ways to keep fit and active. It’s sure to become a favourite in the Southern area!
