The South Australian Museum is a popular destination for families with kids of all ages, offering free educational activities, intriguing displays and innovative temporary exhibitions. The Discovery Centre is a favourite with families, offering hands-on exploration, while the Giant Squid that covers four floors is always popular.

Permanent Exhibitions

Permanent galleries include the South Australian Biodiversity, Pacific Cultures, Megafauna, Opalised Fossils, Polar, Ediacaran, Minerals, and the Ancient Egyptian Room. Did we mention the 11m long model of a giant squid, displayed in an old lift shaft over four floors?

Discovery Centre

The ever-popular Discovery Centre on level one contains a wealth of information and many drawers to open and explore, including a much-loved working beehive. It’s open from 10.30am to 2.30pm on Wednesdays, Fridays, and weekends.
