Grew Cudlee Creek | Review
The iconic Cudlee Creek café is back with new owners, an incredible refurbishment and a new name, Grew. If you are seeking a special destination to set your sights on for a Sunday drive, meal and family fun, Grew has exactly what you are looking for.
Review by Angelica-Hazel

Cudlee Creek is a small town in the Northern Adelaide Hills with a lot of heart. Grew is not only a quintessential stop when passing through this area, it is an establishment that personifies country charm, warmth and hospitality whilst championing local businesses throughout its menu and retail offerings.
As you make your way to Grew you can take the scenic windy roads of Chain of Ponds past Millbrook reservoir or you can set your sights on Gumeracha, visit the iconic Big Rocking Horse, pick up some cherries at Torrens Valley and then head straight to Grew. Whichever route you choose make sure you keep an eye out for animals. You might be fortunate enough to see an emu, kangaroos, koalas or if not pull up just before the café and marvel at the beautiful horse in the paddock. The journey and the destination make Grew a fun experience for the whole family.

Sitting pretty in pink, Grew has street appeal and is often packed to the brim with cars, motorbikes and patrons sitting outside enjoying the sun, a coffee and the atmosphere. Once inside the vibe is chic yet inviting and with so many pretty little nooks its hard to choose an area to set yourself up. In winter there is a fire to keep you warm and cosy and in summer the air conditioning plus cooler country area provides a welcome retrieve from the heat.
No matter where you sit the large windows boast incredible views of the outdoor greenery and children are entertained with paper, coloured pens and a bunch of toys tucked away into the counter. Speaking of the counter and cabinets there are so many incredible cakes, pies and biscuits and you can purchase jars of jam, pickles and sauce from local cottage industries.

The menu is filled with hearty comfort food such as big breakfasts, steak sandwiches, the O.G dog and apple crumble French toast. However, there are options for vegetarians, vegans, pescatarians, gluten free diners and they have a separate Junior Grew Crew Menu for kids. They also proudly support local businesses such as Lobethal bierhaus, Lobo cider, local wineries and their coffee is from Mighty Mighty coffee roasters and milk from Lobethal dairy, Tweedvale.

If you make your way to the back of the café down the stairs you will find yourself surrounded by trees, wooden tables and next to an old wooden playground and swing set. The play space is a little worn but that didn’t stop the kids from burning off some energy and whiling away the time picking dandelions and taking turns on the swing.

The entire downstairs area is a work in progress as is the outside area at the top of the stairs. The owners have plans to upgrade both areas making them even more kid friendly, so watch this space.

Food, coffee and facilities aside, the owners are incredibly warm and hospitable. They love welcoming families with kids and children have plenty of options for foods, treats and entertainment.
So next time you are planning an Adelaide Hills day out, make sure you venture to the Northern Hills and give Grew a visit.
Things to consider
- There are toilets and change facilities on site but if you have a pram or mobility issues you might find it challenging. This being said they have plans to upgrade this area to make it easier for patrons and more inviting.
- The playground is wooden and a bit old so kids will need parent supervision.
- During wet days the outdoor area can be slippery with the leaves so be mindful.
- The stairs leading down to the garden can be steep so watch your step.
- They have high chairs on site
