Friends with Florence Cafe Review

We have stumbled upon the sweetest little café that your kids will love just as much as you! Come for the coffee, stay for the kids corner and go say hi to the lovely staff and local community.

Tucked away in a quiet suburban street in the suburb of Melrose Park is Friends with Florence, a small spot with a big heart and lots to offer families. Making our way towards the entrance, we couldn’t help but notice the eye-catching yellow and white sign, big glass windows and rainbow floor mat. The kids instantly got excited seeing the colourful chalk drawings spilling onto the ground at the front of the café, next to a “spinning wheel of good fortune” they wanted to play with!

Making our way inside, we find the space light, bright and fun. There is a little retail space to the left, a light pink coffee machine adorned with Polaroid pics, a big wooden countertop and tables and chairs positioned along the white walls to maximise the space. Moving towards the back of the café, my kids immediately made a beeline for the little kids’ corner. There is a play mat set out, some books and wooden toys and a few bits and bobs for imaginative play. The area is small but well thought out, painted with colourful flowers, leaves, hearts and swirls. It’s a lovely space and a great place for small kids to play whilst parents enjoy a warming cup of coffee.

Moving onto the menu, there are delicious-looking baked goods, quality paninis and a very well-priced kids’ menu that made us do a double take! At the time of our visit (May 2026*), they were offering $5 kids toasties, $8 pancakes and $5 croissants with a choice of strawberry jam or Nutella. We settled on a chocolate milkshake, which my daughters absolutely loved, and a strong long black, which hit the spot. Other popular items include their freshly made juices and smoothies.

Visiting on a Sunday mid-morning, it was clear that this place is a popular choice among locals. There were people sitting on little stools outside and numerous groups enjoying the food and beverage offerings.  After one visit, we could easily see why this place attracts such a crowd. Not only do they offer great facilities and delicious food and drinks, but the service is also warm and inviting and the kind of place you want to return to. After our visit, we made our way to Mitcham Reserve (to burn off the sugar), which is a 10-minute drive and a nice way to end a chilled-out morning.

So next time you are in search of a cute café that caters to kids, put Friends with Florence on your must-visit list!
