Karkungka Reserve Playground | Keswick | Review

Karkungka Reserve Playground in Keswick offers something for every age, with modern play equipment to challenge older kids, dedicated play areas for younger children and plenty of family-friendly facilities.
Review by Claire Davill
Karkungka Reserve in Keswick has undergone several redevelopments over the last few years, with upgraded play equipment, basketball and tennis courts, cricket nets, pump tracks and a small soccer field with goals. Construction of a community facility is underway and due for completion in 2027, but the park remains accessible while construction occurs.
The playground features plenty of challenging pieces of equipment that will keep older kids occupied. There was a group of older teenagers enjoying the playground when we visited and they were having a blast! The shaded equipment includes a small flying fox, spinning inclined platform and sliding “bannister” style rail.

There are climbing walls, step bridges and a short tunnel, as well as a small slide. For smaller kids, there are springy platforms and spinning activity wheels here, and a brightly coloured xylophone and talking tubes. The nearby swings are also suitable for smaller kids, with a toddler swing included.

Nearby, there is a tiny little basket swing, seated merry go round and springy car, and a small in-ground trampoline for the little kids. There’s a cute little picnic table in the centre of this area, and a table tennis table nearby.

There are a few pieces of exercise equipment near the playground as well.

The park contains two pump tracks, one dirt and one fully sealed, and both are suitable for little and big kids alike. There is also a brightly coloured basketball court with artwork along the fence.

A small nature play area includes stepping stones and balance logs, and a great cockatoo sculpture. Behind the nature play area you’ll find a large kick about space with two soccer goals.

The toilet block is located between the kick about space and the tennis courts, and here you’ll also find picnic tables and cricket nets. There is also a barbeque here, but as of 2026 it is temporarily inaccessible due to the nearby construction.

Also temporarily inaccessible is the RSL memorial garden and tank display, though you can view these from the footpath for now.

Things to Consider:
- The playground is not fully fenced, although the fence extends along both sides of the park closest to the playground (the park is partially fenced along Everard Avenue and Surrey Road)
- Some of the equipment is suited to taller kids, especially the flying fox. It’s a bit of a stretch to reach the handle to return to the platform, even for adults!
- Bring balls and scooters/bikes for the courts, kick about field and pump tracks.
Location:
47 Farnham Road, Keswick. The playground is also accessible from Surrey Road.
There is off-street parking along Farnham Road.
