Explore the City on the Free City Connector Bus in Adelaide

Did you know there are free options for travel by bus within the Adelaide City and North Adelaide? The FREE City Connector buses travel in loops around the CBD and North Adelaide, in both clockwise and anti-clockwise directions. There are multiple stops, making this a fun hop-on-hop-off option for exploring the city, or just for a fun bus ride viewing the sights.

City Connector buses 98A, 98C, 99A and 99C

The 98A (anti-clockwise) and 98C (clockwise) buses run a loop through the city and through North Adelaide. These buses run 7 days a week, every 30 minutes.

The 99A (anti-clockwise) and 99C (clockwise) buses run a smaller loop through the CBD, and operate every 30 minutes on weekdays. 

This means that on weekdays, you can catch a city connector bus every 15 minutes. All buses are airconditioned and wheelchair accessible.

You can view the City Connector route maps and timetables on the Adelaide Metro website. Each stop is clearly marked, although note that some stops service other buses as well, so make sure you board the correct bus. The City Connector buses often have a red front and red, blue and green markings on the sides, but not always. Always check the number display on the front or side of the bus.

The Adelaide CBD Loop (99A and B)

This smaller loop runs along North Terrace, East Terrace, Hutt Street, Halifax Street, Morphett Street and King William Street. This is a great opportunity to see the streets in the south of the CBD that you might not have explored before, and has handy access to stops at the Adelaide Central Market, Rundle Park, Rymill Park, Adelaide Botanic Garden, the South Australian Museum and the Art Gallery of SA on North Terrace.

The Adelaide CBD and North Adelaide Loop (98A and B)

This longer loop runs along the same as the Adelaide CBD loop, but also heads along Currie Street to Light Square, up Montefiore Road, through North Adelaide and down Frome Road and Victoria Drive. This loop allows you to sight-see through the leafy streets of North Adelaide, with stops near O’Connell Street, the Glover (Helicopter) Playground, cafes and restaurants on Melbourne Street such as Butter & Toast and Jalsa, and the Adelaide Zoo.

What we like about the City Connector buses:

• They’re completely FREE!
• It’s a comfortable and easy way to get around the city.
• It’s the perfect opportunity for a fun bus ride for little kids.

Things to consider:

• Note that the bus stops for the A & C loops will be on opposite sides of the roads.
• Take care when crossing roads to get to attractions and play areas.
• Make sure kids are seated while the bus is moving – occasionally they have to make sudden stops.

Stop 4 – Jerningham Street near Melbourne Street

Stop 2 – Frome Road near the Adelaide Zoo
