Free City Bus in Adelaide
Did you know Adelaide Metro offers free travel options within Adelaide City and North Adelaide?
It’s a fabulous way to explore the city – for free! The City Connector buses travel in both directions around the city and you can hop on and off as you please at various stops along the way. Young children especially love the experience of riding on public transport and it’s a great way to take in the city streets and discover buildings and businesses you may not have seen before.
City Connector buses 98A, 98C, 99A & 99C
The Free City Connector buses operate as two loops, an inner city loop and an extended North Adelaide loop. Routes 98A and 98C link the city and North Adelaide every 30 minutes, seven days a week and routes 99A & 99C travel the main city destinations every 30 minutes on weekdays, together providing a 15 minute service at major points of the city.
You can download and print off the City Connector Bus Route maps from the Adelaide Metro website. Each bus stop is clearly marked and all Connector buses are air conditioned and wheelchair and pram friendly.
The inner city loop runs along East Terrace, Hutt Street, Halifax Street, Morphett Street, King William Street and North Terrace. There are lots of houses, buildings, shops, hotels, cafes and restaurants along the bus routes as well as a few grassy areas too. Some of the more popular stops are located next to Adelaide Central Market, Hutt Street and Rundle Street precincts and North Terrace.
There is so much to see and do along North Terrace such as the South Australian Museum, State Library and Art Gallery, plus it’s only a short walk to Rundle Mall or down to the River Torrens.
Our favourite places in the city to let the kids run around when they have energy to burn include Rymill Park and the Botanic Garden (get off on East Terrace) and Victoria Square on King William Road.
City Loop
On weekdays the City Loop operates between approximately 8.30am and 7.30pm.
City & North Adelaide Loop
The City and North Adelaide Loop operates between approximately 7am and 10pm weekdays, 8.30am and 8pm Saturdays and 9.30am and 8pm on Sundays and Public Holidays.
If you hop on bus 98A or 98C you can travel the city loop, but be aware these buses also travel out to North Adelaide. These buses are the ones to catch however if you want to stop a little closer to the Adelaide Railway Station, visit Elder Park (including the footbridge to Adelaide Oval) or Adelaide Zoo. The loop of North Adelaide will also take you to Glover Playground (Helicopter Park) and North Adelaide Golf Course.
