Discover a hand-picked selection of shows and events that are perfect for kids of all ages, from the FREE Blinc outdoor digital art gallery and Adelaide Writers’ Week’s Kids’ Weekend to orchestral spectaculars and intimate re-tellings of much-loved fairytales.

Opening Night Party

Bring the family to celebrate the official opening of the 2015 festival.  Enjoy dinner at a massive Fork on the Road dining event followed by the switch on of Blinc at 9pm, marked by a free fireworks spectacular. Then, be one of the first in Adelaide to promenade the breathtaking Blinc outdoor digital art gallery. An unmissable festival moment and a night to remember.

Blinc  |  FREE EVENT

Stroll from one light and sound installation to the next and immerse yourself in this exclusive survey of the very best international digital art. From large-scale projections to extraordinary laser works, building-mapping projects, and more intimate, interactive experiences, this cutting-edge selection displays astonishing feats of technical brilliance from some of the world’s best artists. As much a family experience as a contemporary art exhibition, Blinc is an event to return to again and again during the festival, as everything from a series of faces projected in trees to a larger-than-life three dimensional elephant light up this iconic precinct in the most unforgettable way.

Blinc Bar

Located at the heart of the open-air gallery in Elder Park, Blinc Bar is open every night during the festival serving quick eats and refreshments from pre-show until late into the night. Get exhibition maps and the lowdown on all things Blinc at the information booth before walking the digital art installations, and swing back afterwards to bask in what you just experienced over a drink with friends and family. A picturesque pitstop to refresh, recharge and revel on the riverbank.

She’s a lonely office girl. He’s an out-of-work robot struggling to find a voice in a big city. Little do they know that destiny has a beautiful romance in store. Created by Montreal-based award-winning graphic novelist and DJ Kid Koala and directed by recent Oscar nominee K.K. Barrett (Spike Jonze’s Her, Where the Wild Things Are), this is silent movie meets musical concert as the love story unfolds on a miniature set screened via GoPros accompanied by piano, turntable and strings. Heartfelt, hand-made and a very cool live experience.

Danny Elfman’s Music from the Films of Tim Burton

United States/Australian Premiere featuring special guest performance by Danny Elfman.  Conducted by John Mauceri and featuring the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and Adelaide Festival chorus.

Danny Elfman and Tim Burton are responsible for some of the most famous film score collaborations of our time including Batman, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice and Alice in Wonderland. Elfman’s striking music is performed by the full might of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, a soaring choir and Elfman himself, alongside excerpts, sketches and storyboards of Burton’s strange and beautiful gothic worlds. A not to be missed festival event celebrating more than 25 years of collaboration between two of Hollywood’s top creators.
