Explore South Australia’s Marine Giants in 360° Dome Virtual Reality – all the wonders of the deep ocean without getting wet at the Adelaide Planetarium.

A great school holiday activity, this January families and children of all abilities are invited to embark on a thrilling underwater journey without getting wet at the ‘MEGAfauna of the Great Southern Reef Special’ – an exciting, all-inclusive 360° VR adventure at the Adelaide Planetarium Dome.

Hosted by marine experts from Experiencing Marine Sanctuaries (EMS) and the University of South Australia 360 Lab and featuring the work of renowned videographer Carl Charter (who recently visited the Kingdom of Tonga to capture spectacular underwater 360° footage of humpback whales), this event offers a rare opportunity to dive into the vibrant and mysterious world of South Australia’s marine giants.

Event Highlights Include:

  • Swim with humpback whales, whale sharks, grey nurse sharks, and playful sea lions.
  • Witness the mesmerising movements of giant cuttlefish and eagle rays.
  • Discover the hidden beauty of the leafy seadragon, South Australia’s marine emblem.
  • Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of Sea Country and learn about the importance of Marine Parks and sanctuaries in protecting this vital ecosystem.
  • Experience cutting-edge VR technology in a fun and accessible environment designed for all ages and abilities, with accommodations for people with disabilities.
