Apple Recipes for Kids: Apple Donuts

Finding healthy sweet snacks that don’t contain a tonne of sugar isn’t easy. This apple donut recipe is a fun and tasty snack alternative the kids will love.

Swapping out regular after-school snacks like 2-minute noodles or sugary cookies for something healthier doesn’t have to be difficult. Healthy alternatives that look amazing and taste fantastic can be a hit with kids of all ages.

This article is written in collaboration with Babysits – Australia’s babysitting community. If you need a babysitter in Adelaide, they’re a great resource to find quality child care providers near you.

Recipe

To make apple donuts you’ll need:

● Apple (1 apple can make 4-6 donuts depending on the thickness of the slices).
● Spread of your choice (e.g. cream cheese, peanut butter, honey)
● Healthy toppings (e.g. chia seeds, almonds, coconut chips, strawberries)

Process:

1. Wash and slice the apples (approx. 1cm thick slices).
2. Use a stencil to remove the apple core.
3. Spread a paste of your choice (we used peanut butter and cream cheese) over your apple slices.
4. Decorate the apple donuts with toppings of your choice (slivered almonds, coconut chips, honey, etc.)

And you’re done! This is a great recipe for older kids to prepare themselves or for younger kids to lend a helping hand in the kitchen.
