Brighton Pump Track

Are you looking for somewhere fun where your whole family can go for a bike ride?

At 170 metres long, the new Brighton Pump Track is the largest clay pump track in Australia. It contains over 600 tonnes of clay, covering an area of around 1,000 square metres. And best of all it’s completely free!

The pump track was funded by the City of Holdfast Bay Council and is a great new play space for bike riders.

Editor’s note: A picnic bench is currently being installed, to be followed soon by a drinking fountain, two additional benches, bike maintenance station and shade cloth. Watch this space!

The Brighton Pump Track is fun for all ages

The pump track has been designed to be ride-able and present challenges for any ability level. There have been riders between 3 and 70 years old using the track.

The Beginner’s Track is designed to be easily accessible for parents assisting their children (even with a balance bike as pictured below).

What’s a pump track?

A pump track is a series of rolling mounds – ‘rollers’, and banked corners – ‘berms’. Riders generate speed by transferring their body weight, no pedalling required! At an elite level, it is very physically demanding, but it can also be cruised around gently.

Riding skills gained on the pump track such as balance, awareness and bike control transfer directly to the road and make users better, safer riders.
