Chinese New Year Concert

To celebrate the Year of the Ox, experience an evocative fusion of traditional Chinese instruments and western music elements performed by talented local musicians.

The concert features mostly original music and work, composed by local musicians Zhao Liang, Satomi Ohnishi, Joel Ang, David Dai and Xuting Zhao. The repertoire will also deliver new arrangements of some popular folk songs, including a jazzed-up Kang Ding Qing Ge (康定情歌), and Flowing River (小河淌水) that feature a crossing of melodies between cello and erhu.

Be mesmerised by the beauty of the Chinese harp ‘Guzheng’, Chinese violin, ‘Erhu’, Chinese mandolin ‘Liuqin’,and the Chinese guitar ‘Ruan’. Be amazed by the beautiful dances and rhythms of the drums.

The School of Chinese Music & Arts will be joined by guest artists including  Oriental Flair and Bronzewing Quartet,  who will highlight beautiful Eastern and Western strings in harmony.  San Ureshi, a South  Australian oriental jazz ensemble which has recently responded striking compositions to Art Gallery SA’s Samurai exhibition, will also be featured.
