#ColourYourCommunityRed | National Volunteer Week | 18-24 May 2020

#ColourYourCommunityRed

‘Colour Your Community Red’ is an online social media campaign to thank and celebrate the almost one million South Australian’s who volunteer.

It replaces the annual National Volunteer Week’s parade and BBQ in Adelaide and the Darwin thank you event, due to COVID-19 restrictions.

‘Colour Your Community Red’ will give everyone in the community a chance to thank volunteers. The event also encourages volunteers to stand up and be proud to be a volunteer in their State or Territory.

‘Colour Your Community Red’ will highlight the amazing work of volunteers and with the unprecedented bushfires in Australia and now COVID-19, these tough times have really bonded communities.

Volunteering SA are asking organisations and businesses to light up or decorate their buildings to ‘spread the red’ from 18 – 24 May 2020. So far, they are very pleased to confirm the Adelaide Convention Centre and Adelaide Entertainment Centre and Cara Inc will be involved and they are still in negotiations on CBD buildings.

Everyone is encouraged to participate.

How to get involved:

If you are a volunteer-involving organisation, a volunteer or anyone that supports volunteering, you can participate by tying something red out the front of your home. Tie a ribbon, scarf, table cloth or even a tea towel around your letterbox, fence or tree – take a picture or a video, post it on socials to show how great it is to be or know a volunteer.

Tag @Volunteering SA&NT and use the campaign hashtags including one with your postcode so they can see how far the celebrations go into our communities. Eg. #5000

National Volunteer Week:

National Volunteer Week (NVW) is an annual event which acknowledges and celebrates the generous contribution of our nation’s volunteers. At this uncertain time, it is more important than ever to recognise and acknowledge Australia’s volunteers. Instead of in-person events, online activities and campaigns will take their place to recognise and thank volunteers.

The theme changes each year, and this year, it is Changing Communities. Changing Lives.
