Easter at Home – Family Friendly Activities

If you are planning to have a quiet Easter at home (being the weekend before South Australian first term school holidays begin) we have lots if ideas to keep the kids entertained.  Families can spend time in the kitchen, help the kids with some creative Easter projects and indulge in a little bit (or a lot) of chocolate!

An Easter egg hunt is always the highlight for young and old, so get creative with your baskets, plan an Easter trail through the house and backyard, or play some Easter themed games at home or at your local park.

Easter Traditions at Home

Backyard Camping – pitch the tent in the backyard for the long weekend.  If you can set up a fire pit to cook meals and toast marshmallows.

Easter Egg Hunt – get up early before the little ones (or big ones who still love this tradition!) and hide Easter eggs in the garden.  Decorate a basket or make one from cardboard (kids art project). Organise a big Easter egg hunt with family, friends and neighbours – perhaps the families you know on your street would like to do a simultaneous egg hunt at a set time Sunday morning.

Easter Picnic – put together a picnic to enjoy in the backyard (or balcony/porch/living room if in an apartment) or head out to your local park.  Set out a picnic rug, cushions and blankets on the ground (or floor) and set up your Easter feast.

Easter Biscuits – get the kids to help decorate Milk Arrowroot biscuits with icing and simple colourful toppings. Put them into cellophane bags, zip lock bags or a container and drop them into family and friends’ letterboxes, with or without chocolates.

Holiday Activities at Home

We can feel like we are on holiday by not cooking! Order takeaway – it will be just like room service. Choose a local restaurant offering home delivery and the only washing up will be the plates and cutlery!

Take time out to go for a walk or bike ride around your neighbourhood and explore different areas.

Don’t do any cleaning or worry about the laundry for at least one whole day (or more).

Play some fun games – cards, board games, get out the old SingStar, Nintendo, Wii.

We have heaps of ideas for fun activities at home. See our guide below for ideas:
