Free Henley Beach Wheelchair Hire
From mid October until April each year, the bookable beach wheelchairs are available for free half-day hire down at Henley Beach.
The wheelchairs enable people living with a disability to go into the water and enjoy the beach safely. They are available for free half-day hire (morning or afternoon) from mid October to Easter every summer. There are two types of wheelchairs for hire, each with their own unique features, but both offering the opportunity to play safely in the water and on the beach itself.
The accessible beach mat will also be in use during this period, seven days a week, but subject to tide times, weather conditions and resources.
Bookings are essential, so make sure you book your spots over summer and beyond.
Once booked, residents can collect their wheelchair from the Henley Surf Life Saving Club at 246 Esplanade, Henley Beach. Please note you will need a MLAK key to access the storage area at the Surf Life Saving Club but they have MLAK keys available to borrow from the Henley Beach or Civic Centre Libraries if required.
There are two types of beach wheelchairs for hire with different features:
DaVinci Mobile Beachster (x1) – submersible (to knee deep)
Morning hire: 8.30am – 12.30pm
Afternoon hire: 1pm – 5pm
Mobi-Chair (x2) – floating wheelchair

New Beach Mat:
Henley Beach has installed a brand new beach mat, with thanks to Push Mobility.
Beach mats deal with a lot over the warmer months so do need an upgrade every so often. But the new mat now has ‘parking’ bays, allowing more people to stop on the path and enjoy the beach.
