Hike for History | Mercedes College | 26 May 2022

Hike for History and support future generations

Walk in the footsteps of Olympic medallists, world-class musicians, actors and even the Premier of South Australia.

Join Mercedes College for their exclusive ‘Hike for History’, part of May’s South Australia’s History Festival.  Limited to only 50 guests, this inaugural event will see participants enjoy a pre-hike coffee in the beautiful College grounds, once part of Springfield Estate and considered for the residence of the Governor of South Australia.

Walk in the footsteps of some of the College’s successful alumni including Olympic bronze medallist Hannah Davis, guitarist Orianthi, Hollywood actress Teresa Palmer, and South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas.

Hike for History is open to anyone curious about the school’s history and its surrounds, whether or not you have a current connection with, or interest in, Mercedes College.  Mercedes College Principal, Andrew Balkwill, says the event will reveal insights about the College’s past as well as future aspirations, as it educates and inspires South Australia’s future leaders.

“At Mercedes College, our students and staff are surrounded by history every day, and now we can share that with our wider community and let them see behind the hedge,” Mr Balkwill says.

“I’m so pleased we can throw open our gates and share some of our College’s interesting story and that of our surrounding landmarks here at Springfield. Mercedes College was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1954 yet the history of our buildings and surrounding landmarks is much older.

“On this guided tour, you’ll see the College’s historic Strathspey house, built in 1899, hear about boarder antics from the 1950-60s, walk to one of Australia’s only period homes with original surviving contents in Carrick Hill, and visit the surrounds of prominent Adelaide mansion Springfield House.”

Join the comfortable 2.5 kilometre, Hike for History at Mercedes College on Thursday, 26 May 2022 from 8.30am.

Tickets are $25 (plus booking fee) and numbers are strictly limited. Proceeds from ticket sales will support Mercedes College’s new Arts and Sports Precinct, helping students to flourish for decades to come.
