How to Wash Your Hands Properly during COVID-19 Pandemic
FACT: The soap you use does not have to be antibacterial! Regular soap will protect you from Coronavirus if you wash your hands properly. It is how you wash your hands that matters.
COVID-19, like many other viruses, is held together by a lipid (fatty) membrane. Washing with soap will remove the fat that sits around the virus particles and destroy it.
How to wash your hands properly according to SA Health:
- Use soap and running water
- Wet hands thoroughly and lather with soap (any soap!)
- Rub hands together for 20 seconds as you wash them, creating a good lather
- Pay attention to the backs of hands, wrists, between fingers and under fingernails
- Rinse hands well under running water
- Dry hands with a single use disposable paper towel or a clean towel.
