Humbug Scrub Wildlife Sanctuary Family Fun Day
The annual October long weekend Humbug Scrub Wildlife Sanctuary Family Fun Day will be held on Monday, October 2nd.
Go along to browse the market stalls, feed the animals (the emus happily eat from your hand, others may be more timid), enjoy a barbecue and baked potato lunch, check out the cottage museum, take a stroll through the native bushland or just sit quietly and let the wildlife come to you.
The Humbug Scrub Wildlife Sanctuary Family Fun Day is a major fundraiser for the sanctuary’s insurance bill.
Entry is by gold coin donation with children under 5 free.
About Humbug Scrub Wildlife Sanctuary:
Situated in natural bush setting, the Sanctuary was established by Thomas Bellchambers in 1905 and is committed to the preservation of our native flora and fauna. Native kangaroos and emus roam freely throughout the park, giving visitors opportunities to hand feed these wonderful creatures.
Sit under a shady tree and watch peacocks, Cape Barren geese, black cockatoos, swans and a variety of other birds in their natural habitat. Learn more about the history of Humbug Scrub Sanctuary by visiting Tom’s Cottage, or just take a quiet stroll along many walking paths that meander past scenic lakes and natural bushland.
Humbug Scrub Wildlife Sanctuary is a private sanctuary, staffed by volunteers and is the oldest Sanctuary in South Australia. The Sanctuary is a registered charity and all donations are tax deductible.
Situated in bushland approximately 50 kms north east of Adelaide in the Mount Lofty Ranges, the Sanctuary can be found approximately 3km’s past the entrance to the Para Wirra Recreational Park.
