Here’s what you need to know about TreeClimb Adelaide

TreeClimb offers adventure seekers 7 elevated tree walk courses, plus zip lines, within the 16,000 sqm zone setting of Kurrangga Park. It’s suitable for ages 3 years and over, above 100cm in height. There are more than 70 obstacles where you can climb among the tree tops no matter what the weather – rain, hail or shine.

Groups of up to 20 climbers can go every 20 minutes, 7 days a week. The only time it won’t operate is if there is lightning.

Children’s Course:

24 elevated tree top obstacles – for climbers between 100cm to 135cm height. More about the Children’s Course below.

Grand Course:

52 elevated tree top obstacles – for climbers above 135cm height, maximum weight 135kg

5 progressively challenging obstacle courses, featuring zip-lines a Tarzan swing, flying carpet and trapeze.

The Grand Course consists of 52 challenges and is designed for thrill seekers and active adventurers of all abilities. Divided into 5 different levels of difficulty, each aerial or tree top path offers a fun and interactive set of challenges for every individual. Start with the Green course after passing the practice course, progress to the Blue, Red and then challenge yourself on the Black course.

May 2020 – There is also a new course featuring 100% zip-lines moving you from one side of the park to the other. It consists of 5 zip-lines taking you under other obstacles and flying behind the Tarzan cargo net.

Before hitting the tree tops there is a safety training session where you will be helped into your safety harness, listen to instructions and watch a short safety video. This will teach you a few of the rules that must be followed:

  • There must be no more than 3 people on a platform at any one time.
  • Only 1 person at a time on any walkway.

There is a practise area where you will learn how to hook your lead onto the course system, and the TreeClimb team will help guide you. Once you’re comfortable with this, you are ready to hit the courses.

Grand Course at TreeClimb Adelaide

The courses all start at the one platform. From there you need to decide which course you are going to hook onto. For the Grand Course, the one on the right is the easiest, least scary course – the Green course. However, as you can see from these pics below, it’s still pretty challenging with large gaps between the timber steps which wobble as you cross.

Personally, I’m a huge scaredy cat and not hugely fond of heights, so it took a little bit of courage and a couple of looks before I got onto the Green course you see below.

The walkways sometimes have a line you can hold on one side, or both sides, depending on the design, or you can hold onto your lead above as you walk across. All I can say is try not to look down too much if you’re not overly brave like me.

If you miss a step, don’t worry, you are securely held up and will not fall.

At the end of the courses, the only way down is the zipline. I thought the zipline looked pretty terrifying at first from below, but found that this one is actually a gentle fly down (be aware, the other zipline on the more challenging courses is a much faster descent).  The worst bit is just having to step off that platform below, into the air, for the first time. It is recommended you tuck your knees up a bit to embark on your zip down. After I got over how high it was and managed to step off, I totally enjoyed the ride down. Again, I must reiterate that I am “a total chicken” – as described by my own children, so if I can do this course, anyone can – unless you have a very serious fear of heights – and even then, it could be the best time to face that fear and conquer it. This is probably the scariest height thing I’ve ever done, and I felt quite brave getting through it. I didn’t dare tackle the next step up from this one though.

For the thrill seekers, at the main platform you should hook onto the system on the left. The pic below is the first walkway you cross to go onto other more challenging things.

See our video below to see a bit more of the action, including the amazing Tarzan swing on these more challenging courses.

Children’s Course at TreeClimb

The 3 children’s courses have 21 tree top activities, allowing climbers to progressively complete the Yellow course, then the Purple course and challenge themselves on the Orange course. The TreeClimb crew are there to offer training and guidance, however they encourage parental support from the ground. Children 14 years or under must be supervised by a parent or caregiver.

Can you go on the Children’s Course with your child or children? It is not recommended as the Children’s Course is designed for smaller humans and can pose a risk to yourself or others on the course. You can still be involved from the ground as you guide your child(ren) through the course and follow them on the zip-lines. The course is designed for little people with a minimum height of 100cm and no more than 135cm. However, the day we were there, TreeClimb were a little relaxed with this and there were parents (those who weren’t too tall) allowed to go on the Children’s Course with their child.

Be aware that the lowest platform is still 4 metres from the ground. As you can see there are walkways with great big gaps that little ones will need to be brave enough to cross over. It’s worth it though to get to that zipline. The kids absolutely love the zipline down and it encourages them to go again and again even if just for the zipline down. Unfortunately there is no easy direct route straight to the zipline – they do make the kids work for it.

If you child is going on the Children’s Course do you need to buy a ticket for yourself? No, you don’t. TreeClimb encourage parents to be on the ground to help guide the kids and for that you don’t need a ticket. If your child is fine on their own you can sit at the cafe, the Eco Hut, and enjoy a coffee.

In fact, TreeClimb is completely open and not fenced off, therefore you are welcome to go and watch with no need for a ticket. You only need to buy a ticket if you are climbing.

Aerial Nets Course – Opened April 2023

The TreeClimb NETS ADVENTURE at Kuitpo Forest has just opened!  This course allows you to roam amongst the trees without being harnessed. It’s designed as a post-climb activity; is great for little ones while their older siblings are on the other courses; or for those who might not be ready or able to give the main courses a go.

TreeClimb Kuitpo Aerial nets

There’s 5 net rooms to play in (which fit 10 or 5 people), beach balls to throw around, and a tube slide. The net rooms are not like trampolines and are more like those nets you see under trapeze shows, so while you can’t jump, you can practice your moon walking, try playing ‘Duck Duck Goose’, or lay down and enjoy the tree view.

Wearing pants and long sleeves will help protect your skin from scrapes on the netting.

This is the first aerial nets course in Australia, so very exciting for Adelaide.

It’s a great addition to the already wonderful TreeClimb Kuitpo experience, which is just magical amongst the forest.

Take a look below at the nets course below:

Important things to know before you go to TreeClimb at Kuitpo Forest:

To reduce fire risk and ensure public safety, Kuitpo Forest is closed to all visitors on days of Total Fire Ban, this includes TreeClimb.

Fire danger ratings and bans are declared by the Country Fire Service (CFS) after 4pm on the day before the rating is to take effect, and published on their website.

If you have a booking on the day of a Total Fire Ban, TreeClimb will contact you by email the night before. If you would like to reschedule ahead of time, please contact TreeClimb during office hours 9am – 3pm the day before.

TIPS FOR ADELAIDE & KUITPO:

  • Ensure you arrive 15 minutes before your session to check in so that you arrive in time to put your gear on, participate in a safety check and hands on instruction.
  • Don’t forget you will be wearing a helmet, and long hair must be tied back.
  • Closed toe shoes that won’t come off, are mandatory. Make sure kids tie their shoes up properly so they don’t fall off!!
  • Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in and not too bulky – you will be wearing a harness that goes around each thigh and your waist. Active wear is your friend here.
  • Bring a water bottle – they have a free drinking fountain where you can re-fill your bottle.
  • There are lockers there – you will need a $1 coin to use them.
  • If you want to take your phone with you to take pics, it’s recommended you use a phone pouch on a lanyard. It’s a long way down if you drop your phone! Also with the safety harness on it’s difficult to reach your pockets.
  • Be aware of street car parking limits around this area – the parking inspectors are very active.
  • Book your session online before you go. Some sessions do fill up – you don’t want to turn up with excited kids and find out it’s booked out all day.

Important Note: once you hook onto the course system at the main platform you can’t get off until the end, which is a zipline down. You can’t overtake anyone – you are locked into the order that you hook onto the system. This also means there is no turning back – you have to follow the course until the end. So, it is important when you get up and see the course at the start that you decide if you are going to be able to do it or not. Just be aware that for security and safety, you are locked into the system and there’s no quick way of getting down if you freak out in the middle of the course. One of the TreeClimb staff will have to rescue you which means everyone on that course has to stop and wait. Don’t worry though, they are very well trained and have already done plenty of rescues since opening.
