Josiah Mitton Reserve Playground | Brompton | Review

Josiah Mitton Reserve Playground – history, play equipment, and space to explore.
Review by Claire Davill
Josiah Mitton Reserve is part of the larger Brompton Green reserve, and includes a recently upgraded playground, plenty of space to run and ride, exercise equipment, and even an old historic brick structure to explore.
The playground, while not fenced, is set far away from any nearby roads. The equipment includes a structure with dual-level monkey bars, a twisty tube slide, climbing ladders and walls, a rope net tube and a short fireman’s pole.

A spinning climbing net sits in the centre of the playground. Kids will need an adult’s help to get this spinning, as it’s on an incline.

There are also stepping stones, logs and balance logs here.

The swings include a regular swing, toddler swing, and toddler swing with parent seat. There is also a small basket swing nearby.

Cute bee and spider springy seats are also located near the slide.

There’s a large range of exercise equipment nearby that’s also suitable for older children. There are also picnic tables and barbeques located here.

At the southern end of the park, there is a basketball hoop and plenty of open space to kick a ball about.

Also located at the southern end of the park is a historic brick incinerator that has been preserved by the National Trust. Steps and fenced walkways have been constructed around the structure so that you can safely explore this interesting piece of history.

A flat, sealed path winds its way through the park, and is great for bike riding or scootering. Follow this path northwards to the toilets, that are located 150 metres from the playground.

Things to Consider:
- The playground is not fenced, although it is placed far from surrounding roads.
- The toilet is located 150 metres from the playground and is located next to Hawker Street.
- There are no shade sails in the playground, but plenty of natural shade from nearby trees.
Our favourite nearby coffee spots/cafes:
Lunar Landing cafe is a 5 minute drive away on Hawker Street.
Location:
Pens Close and Burley Griffin Boulevard, Brompton. Off street parking is available on Pens Close.
