The exciting new Largs Bay Ice Cream themed playspace is now open! Featuring a giant ice cream and glistening giant cherries, this playspace has a focus on inclusive play equipment and offers plenty of opportunities for different ages and abilities.
The new playspace will be complemented by the ‘changing places facility’ being constructed in 2024 as part of the new public toilet facilities. The playspace is unlike anything seen before and has been custom-designed and made by local business, Iguana Creative.

The new playground includes:
- A climbable soft serve ice cream cup with slide
- Inclusive mound slide
- Accessible trampolines
- Climbing tower with large tunnel slide
- Two swing sets
- Cherry sculptures
- Communication boards
- Informative and sensory ice cream sculptures
- Ice cream scoop feature with monkey bars
- Banana split themed accessible seesaw
- Accessible carousel
- Shade
- Seating

The design process
The council worked with students and teachers from Adelaide West Special Education Centre in February 2023 to understand what play elements students most enjoyed and what supporting infrastructure made it possible for them and their families to visit local playgrounds. These ideas and preferences were built into the draft Concept Plan for Largs Bay Playground.
The idea for the ice cream theme was suggested by Ben from Birdseye who was inspired by the feedback and ideas from students and the proximity of the playground to the Largs Bay Kiosk.
The draft design was shared with primary school students from Largs Bay School in April 2023, who voted on the play equipment within the design they liked the most and shared their overall feedback about the ice cream theme and planned upgrades.
Local business Iguana Creative worked alongside council staff on the construction and bringing these unique creations to life. Dirtworks build most of the play elements, and SCA who worked on the soft fall coating.
