Children love to play with shadows. They are mysterious and magical and can do amazing things.

But making friends with your shadow can be a tricky business. There are things to sort out, negotiations to be made, frustrations to be overcome, problems to solve, adventures to be had and laughter to be shared.

Me and My Shadow by Patch Theatre, is presented in the form of a visual poem for children. The show tells its story using the languages of paper, light, shadow, colour, water, music, sound and words. With fantastical imagery, quirky physical performances and an intriguing score, Me and My Shadow seeks to ignite the imaginations of 4-8 year olds in a poetical experience that explores the frustrations and joys of friendship.

Editor’s Post Script 7 August 2013 |  REVIEW

Me and My Shadow is a magical production by Patch Theatre. Magical because there are so many moments which had the children saying (out loud) “How do they do that?”

As an Adult, I am also always wondering how they make things appear as they do and it was way too clever for me! Children (and parents) will easily relate to the interaction between the two characters; the way they played together happily – and sometimes not so happily. This is very clever theatre, the way simple props like paper bags and sheets of paper are used, and of course, the use of light for shadow making. Choreographed to perfection and performed fluidly to a beautiful musical score, with so many little surprises thrown in, there is so much to keep the audience entertained.

There was plenty of laughter, Ooohs and Aaahs, questions, and looks of awe from the audience of kindy kids I saw this with. Kudos to the performers for having to listen to 4 year old hecklers too!

When asked what he liked about the show, my four year old was quick to say “I loved all of it.” I totally agree with him on this one.
