Beerenberg Family Farm – Pick Your Own Strawberries

The 2024/2025 strawberry picking season has commenced at Beerenberg Family Farm. The season normally starts in November but this year’s warmer weather has given the strawberries an early start with sweet, juicy strawberries ready for picking. Always check the Beerenberg website before visiting to make sure the strawberry patch is open. The Farm Shop is open from 9am to 5pm every day (except Christmas Day).

If you love the taste of freshly picked strawberries make sure you visit Beerenberg in the Adelaide Hills for a fabulous day out with the family, strolling through the strawberry patch amongst rows of juicy berries to pick and take home.  A Farm Shop, CafΓ©, tasting stations and more opened in late 2021, so it’s well worth a visit if you’ve never been.  The Farm CafΓ© and The Dairy are open 9am to 4.00pm.

Beerenberg Farm in the Adelaide Hills dates back to 1839 when the Paech family settled at Hahndorf three years after the state of South Australia was proclaimed.  Just 30 minutes from Adelaide’s CBD, Beerenberg is a fully family-owned and operated strawberry farm which is still run by the same family today.

The current owners, Grant and Carol Paech, are the fifth successive generation of Paechs to work the farm.  They inherited what was a dairy farm back in 1970 and the family diversified by planting a strawberry crop for some extra income.  The crop flourished and the rest, as they say, is history.

Pick Your Own Strawberries in Hahndorf

On arriving at Beerenberg, you’ll need to head into the Farm Shop first. It’s $5 per person to enter the strawberry patch plus pay per weight for strawberries picked, with children 12 years and under free. You’ll be given a wrist band and a container in which to collect your berries before heading off to follow the red arrows down to the strawberry patch.

The price you’ll pay for your strawberries varies from season to season but is usually around $12.50* per kg. {*pricing as of October 2024  but subject to change}

Always check Beerenberg’s website to see if the patch is open for picking before going as sometimes they can be β€˜picked out’ that day.

Pick your own has been running continuously (in season) at Beerenberg since 1975. This concept was pioneered here in South Australia and is a fabulous way of spending some time outdoors, in the fresh air, picking your own beautiful, delicious strawberries.  It’s a fabulous activity to enjoy as a family and perfect for all ages.

If you have ever tasted some of Beerenberg’s amazing products you’ll know to expect the best quality when you pick your own berries. You are able to choose your own – colour, size and of course – amount! It’s fun for the whole family and a great experience for visitors from interstate or overseas.

Opening Hours

Entry to the strawberry patch is between from 9am to 4.15pm (no entry after 4.15pm).

The best way to keep up to date is by following Beerenberg on Facebook, where they post regular updates on what is happening at the farm, notifications such as the start and finish of each season.

Beerenberg Farm Shop

The farm shop is open every day (except Christmas day) from 9am to 5pm.  A huge range of Beerenberg products are available for purchase, such as their famous jams, sauces, dressings and chutneys, gift packs, fresh strawberries (already picked) and of course some sweet treats such as chocolate coated strawberries and strawberry swirl ice cream.

You can also take a wander through “Strawberry Lane”. Situated next to the cafe seating area, discover the history of Beerenberg, learn about strawberries and watch how their strawberry jam is made. There’s also a little Kids Corner and a giant strawberry for the kids.

The Farm CafΓ© & The Dairy

The spacious and brightly light Farm CafΓ© serves up a delicious range of food including breakfast offerings, brunch, hot chips, lunch and hot and cold drinks. Or you can choose an enormous hot pie or scone with jam and cream from the cabinet next to the counter.

The Dairy is a nod to local farmers using fresh local milk, fruit and chocolate and other ingredients to create delectable desserts, ice cream, gelati, milkshakes and thickshakes.
