Plummers Pick Your Own is the perfect destination for family fun in the Adelaide Hills. Hand pick a variety of fresh apples off their trees, climb the tractors, meet their farm yard friends and unwind in a picturesque nature setting.
Review by Angelica-Hazel Toutounji

If you haven’t ever been apple picking in the Adelaide Hills, you have no idea what you are missing out on. Before experiencing apple picking with my family I didn’t understand the hype. It took me one trip to absolutely fall in love with the experience and now our family visits as often as possible. What has our family absolutely hooked is the calming, natural environment, the quality fresh produce, the learning experience for our kids and the fun activities on site.

As we walk towards the entry to Plummers Pick Your Own the kids immediately get excited by the insert your face photo wall and run towards it to take a happy snap. We then make our way to the shopfront in the middle of the site and are welcomed by the lovely owners Gavin and Sheree, a husband and wife team who are fifth generation apple growers.

Gavin chats to us about the apple varieties on offer and the kids have the opportunity to taste them and receive a quick demo on how to pick apples. We purchase a bag, pay the entry price and make a bee line for the Jazz row. Our kids are usually pink lady lovers but having the opportunity to try Jazz apples unlocks a new love for them. We fill up a bag with a combination of Pink Lady, Jazz and Fuji and head to the tractors on the lawn.

A nice touch about Plummers Pick Your Own is the outside set up. There is ample lawn and space for kids to run around and there are games, chairs, umbrellas and tractors set up. The onsite store offers cold drinks and a small selection of nibbles, but we also saw lots of families bring their own picnics.

After relaxing for a moment we decide to visit the farm animals. On our visit last year we were fortunate enough to meet their cow Bambi who was pregnant at the time. Bambi was such a special cow with the gentlest nature. We bonded with her instantly and were so sad to hear of her passing. We met her calf Blossom this time and also the lovely Buttermilk as well as the goats. The kids had so much fun being present with the animals and it was hard to drag them away to make the drive back home.

We left Plummers Pick your Own with a bag full of the most delicious apples, family memories and a deep sense of calm from spending the afternoon outside in nature. If you are seeking a school holiday or weekend activity we highly recommend a visit during their picking season. Not only is it a low cost attraction, it sets you up for the weeks ahead with healthy delicious apples to enjoy.

What we like about
- Pretty much everything! The nature setting, delicious apples, kind owners and a low cost, fun family activity.
Things to consider
- apple picking is weather dependent so be prepared for mud, wind, rain etc. Also the seasons isn’t all year round so take advantage of it whilst you can.
Coffee and food options nearby
- there is limited food on site but we did see families bring their own snacks.
