Port Elliot Bakery – the iconic bakery destination that’s a South Australian favourite in the Fleurieu Peninsula

Port Elliot Bakery is an iconic destination for visitors to the Fleurieu Peninsula. South Australians know that a trip to Port Elliot or anywhere in the area is not complete without a stop there. You can’t really miss it on the Main Street – just look out for the line up out the front on the weekends.

The site has been a bakery for over 100 years with the original wood-fired oven still there. The current owners, the Gorman and Horrocks family have been operating the Port Elliot Bakery since 1989.

Some people go for the pies and pasties and love popular flavours like the steak pie and the chicken korma pie, but I must confess we go for the sweets. Each month there is a donut special which is a favourite for many visitors. Here is an example below – the Toblerone one.

There’s usually a line-up on the weekends but the line moves pretty fast with plenty of staff serving at the counter.

Just to the side of the bakery there is an outdoor area with some picnic tables and chairs but it’s not fenced from the road. The tree is a favourite with the kids for climbing.
