road safety park salisbury north

The new Road Safety Park in Salisbury North is a worthwhile stop for families and the perfect place to teach children road safety rules in a relaxed environment.

Review by Angelica-Hazel Toutounji

Pulling up at the Road Safety Park at Happy Home Reserve on a warm Sunday afternoon with kids in tow and bikes in the back, was met with a whole lot of squeals and excitement. Walking towards the gates there is a large sign featuring all of the rules so that kids can learn and get the most out of their time there.

As you make your way in you realise it is a small scale park designed to stimulate real-world traffic conditions. There are pedestrian crossings, traffic lights, road signs and even a small roundabout. Children can ride around the course on bikes, scooters or even by foot.

Thankfully for the adults there are two wooden shaded areas and seats laid out throughout the park. This means parents can comfortably watch their kids riding around the area but aren’t too far too intervene if they need a helping hand. The road safety park also sits within the Happy Home Reserve precinct which features a basketball court, futsal court, picnic areas and even a BBQ. All of these features make this safety park a great place for families to learn and play and a good way to encourage kids to get outside and be active.

We visited with two kids aged 5 and 7 and both girls thoroughly loved the experience. The novelty of having to stop on the red light, keep left and even the bus parking areas all added elements of fun for the girls. This was their first experience at a road safety park and it wont be their last as it felt safe, spacious and interactive. The Road Safety Park is tucked away off the main road and in a reserve so there is ample street parking and a calm environment for kids to get on and off of their bikes.

So if you find yourself not too far from Salisbury North and are seeking some outdoor play, give the new Road Safety Park a visit and enjoy some active fun!

What we like about it

  • The ample space for kids to play and all of the road signs.
  • Being off the main road and right next to a park with additional basketball and futsal courts and BBQs also makes it a good spot for an afternoon visit.

Things to consider

  • We visited in summer and it was very warm, make sure you slip slop slap both yourself and your kids and try not to visit in the hottest part of the day.
  • One thing we did notice was a lack of bike racks which could have been a good feature for kids taking time to stop and play under the shade.
  • The park is open Monday to Sunday all hours (as at Feb 2026) but the traffic lights are only in operation from 8am to 7:30pm (this can change during daylight savings).
  • Accessible toilets within the park area.
  • Please note, this is an unstaffed facility so parental/caregiver supervision is required at all times.
