Rymill Park / Murlawirrapurka (Park 14) Lake Repairs and Upgrade
The Lake in Rymill Park is undergoing improvements and will be closed from late August 2023 until April 2024.
Rymill Park is one of our most loved and frequently used recreational spaces in Adelaide and features the Rymill Park Quentin Kenihan Inclusive Playground. The lake is the park’s centrepiece and features a small island with a bridge each side, accessed via a path for walking, running or riding bikes and scooters. With row boats for hire and a cafe on the lake’s edge, Rymill Park is a popular destination for family gatherings all year round.
Rymill Park’s artificial lake requires renewal to address structural decline, a leaking base and ongoing poor water quality and amenity. Originally constructed in 1959 and opened in 1960, it will be repaired so that it can be enjoyed for many more years to come. South Australian infrastructure and development contractor, CATCON will be completing the important maintenance and upgrade works.
The Rymill Park Lake Renewal project is a key deliverable of the Rymill Park / Murlawirrapurka (Park 14) Master Plan and aims to enhance sustainability by introducing a new water source and upgraded filtration system, as well as completing pathway and lighting improvements around the lake.

The Rymill Park Lake Renewal project is being delivered through a funding partnership between the State Government and Council. The City of Adelaide was successful in receiving funds through the State Governments 2021-22 Open Space Grant Program, as part of their Planning and Development Fund. Council acknowledges the State’s ongoing support in developing Rymill Park into a world class quality open and accessible park.
