Sidewood Restaurant | Kids Nature Play Area | Adelaide Hills | Review

Sidewood Restaurant – Family Friendly Dining in the Adelaide Hills

Set amongst towering gums in the most picturesque hills setting, Sidewood Restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining all year round.  The largest certified sustainable winery in the Adelaide Hills and located just off the freeway in Hahndorf less than 30 minutes from Adelaide, Sidewood is a family owned winery with a family friendly restaurant and cellar door.

From the moment you walk up the Sidewood Restaurant entrance you will notice the attention to detail around every corner.  The building itself is modern yet charming, and the grounds combine native landscaping with lots of natural elements, such as rustic play equipment, climbing logs and tree stump seating.  Out in the nature play area there is also lawn so it’s perfect for little ones to run around.

The fabulous outdoor nature play space features swings, climbing equipment and balance ropes.  You can choose to sit outside under the trees and watch the kids run around, or book a table out on the undercover deck overlooking the play area where you can still watch the kids play.

Once inside you can’t help but admire the impressive art on display – the venue features an eclectic collection of Australian art, including works by Oslen, Blackman, Boissevain and Grey Smith.  From the cosy nook and bar in the foyer to the welcoming main area of the restaurant, there is so much to take in.  Sculptures, paintings, ornaments, wall hangings and more.  We love the artistic body hanging upside down near the fireplace and the hanging bird light!

Seating options include booths set around the edge of the restaurant or if you prefer to dine outside there are tables and chairs out on the expansive deck.   A gorgeous fireplace features during the colder months.

When visiting Sidewood we just can’t go past their wood oven pizzas – they are the best!  Their shoestring fries are pretty good too!   The menu also offers a delicious selection of starters, mains and sides with vegan and gluten free dishes available.  The kids menu is simple – just the way most kids like it! Pictured below is the kids ham and cheese pizza (HUGE) and the fried chicken and chips.

Each dish on the menu is matched to a recommended wine, or if you haven’t been to Sidewood before adults can order tasting paddles of their wines and ciders.  The adults in our group loved the ciders on tap, available in an array of flavours.  For kids there is water, juice and soft drinks.

Outside there are small table san chairs as well as VIP luxury day beds available for small group bookings.

The Lawn Bowls and Pétanque Courts (pictured above and below) is now a strictly 18+ adults only area.

The restaurant toilets are worth a mention – both the inside restrooms and the ones located near the outdoor play area were immaculate, very clean and thoughtfully designed to a high standard just like the rest of the restaurant’s interiors.
