Sitters Memorial Drive Playground Review
For kids who love to climb this playground is worth a visit.
We found ourselves in Burnside one afternoon with plenty of energy to burn, and we put this playground to the test, having heard it was a lot of fun for keen climbers.
The kids leapt out of the car and raced over to the major climbing structure which features a network of red spiderweb which you need to scale to get to the top and go down the slide.
Initially it took a bit of effort for the eight year old to get to the top and then he worked out that he preferred to get there via the climbing wall with the foot and hand-holds.
What we like about the Sitters Memorial Drive Playground
❤️ It’s a quiet spot and you might even have the whole playground to yourself
❤️ A big swing, a suspended seesaw and the climbing structure are good fun for confident preschoolers or school aged kids
❤️ There’s plenty of grass to run about on
❤️ Tree stumps – always fun to climb onto or to jump from
❤️ A soft fall rubber play surface to protect little ones from knocks
❤️ Established trees provide shade
Do you have kids to who love to climb?
My kids find climbing spots wherever they go and heights don’t seem to faze them. The 6, 8 and 10 year old were up and down the climbing structure over and over having a great time in doing so. The 10 year old did point out (with a big grin of approval) that the top of the spiderweb structure was ‘dangerous’ as it was open to the ground as you made your way from there to the entrance to the slide.
The toddler, also a seasoned climber, was disappointed that this particular climbing structure was too challenging.
I was relieved as for once I didn’t have to climb up said climbing structure in order to rescue an overly confident toddler who had become trapped right at the top.
The rubberised play surface with its gentle steps was a much safer option for the toddler’s climbing efforts – here big brother shows how it’s done.
The slide was fun for the big kids, as well as for the toddlers who tried to thwart their attempts to zoom down it too quickly.
The wobbly suspended ladder at the base of the climbing structure will be fun for kids who aren’t quite confident enough to climb right to the top, and they can enjoy challenging their balance and strength.
If you need a break after all that climbing there’s a picnic table right in the middle of the playground.
My kids loved the oversized swing which could be made to move forward and back or left and right. It was fun for imaginative play – one minute it was a bucking bronco and the next it was a cosy hammock.
The tree stumps were fun for playing follow the leader.
The big rotating seesaw got the tick of approval from the big kids.
Things to consider
❤️ The reserve isn’t fenced so keep an eye on your toddler/little people
❤️ There are no toilets
❤️ There’s a picnic table under shade which is a good rest-stop after all that climbing
❤️ We did spy a drinking fountain further up the reserve

How to get there
This playground is easy to miss unless you know where you’re going. Driving east along Greenhill Road cross over Glynburn Road and then turn right onto Sitters Memorial Drive. The reserve is just on your right.
