Tea House | Nature Festival | Review
Take a moment to pause, breathe, and enjoy a cup of calm at Tea House – a free, family-friendly gem within South Australia’s Nature Festival.
Review by Angelica-Hazel Toutounji
Nature Festival is a unique festival where over 200 community groups and organisations have collaborated to celebrate their love for nature in South Australia. This year the theme of the festival is flow which is all about paying attention to all that moves and moves us. Whilst there are so many events to experience as part of the festival, Tea House has a special place in our hearts and is one not to be missed.
As you enter the Adelaide Botanic Garden from Plane Tree Drive, walk past the Bicentennial Conservatory and keep your eyes peeled for the purple flags. Once you find them, follow the well trodden path towards what can only be described as a purple wonderland.
Upon entering you will be greeted by kind ladies adorned in purple and white. Here you can take a seat under the round purple table set around a wide tall tree with mirror placemats marking each seat. Once you sit you are treated to a selection of two herbal tisanes created in partnership with local Aboriginal food company, Warndu.
The whole atmosphere is special, not to mention the calm nature of the tea servers, giving you regular top ups and telling you that your tea is “of this place”. As you rest your tea cup on the glass make sure you take a moment to pause and admire the beautiful trees reflected in the mirror placemats.
Don’t let the serene atmosphere deter you from taking children to this event. All of the teas served are caffeine free and it’s the perfect opportunity for young and old to slow down and practice mindfulness.
Tea House is a great way to start or end a trip to the Adelaide Botanic Garden and a nice little nudge to make a day trip to the Adelaide city. What makes this activity event better is the fact that is is low cost (free in fact) and designed to induce calm and cultivate appreciation for nature and our unique SA surroundings.
Things to consider
- If you have the opportunity to visit on a sunny day, the light reflects beautifully on the mirrored glass
- Once you finish, follow on with the purple theme and visit the wisteria arbour which is currently in bloom
- Consider packing a picnic to enjoy before or after the event
- You can spend as long as you like under the trees sipping tea but generally you can be in and out in under 30 minutes
- This is a free event, you can drop in anytime and no booking required
- Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult
This event will be held again on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12th of October 2025.
