The Little Southern Village Indoor Play Café | O’Halloran Hill | Review

The Little Village Collective

The Little Southern Village, is a beautifully designed indoor play café in Adelaide’s south where little ones can explore imaginative play while parents actually get to enjoy a coffee.

Review by Danielle Parker

If you’re looking for a beautiful play café in Adelaide’s southern suburbs for babies, toddlers and young children, The Little Southern Village, in O’Halloran Hill is a brand new space designed for ages 0–7. It’s a calm, thoughtfully created environment where little ones can play imaginatively while caregivers can enjoy a coffee.

Owners Kelly and Craig created The Little Southern Village, after visiting a play café in the UK. Inspired by the calm, welcoming atmosphere and the ability for kids to play safely while parents relaxed, they set out to bring a similar experience to Adelaide – and it shows in the thoughtful design of the space.

The Play Space

The play space is divided into a range of imaginative zones inspired by real-life places, including a post office, grocery store, police station, “Funnings Warehouse” (complete with a sausage sizzle), construction site, animal rescue, hospital and a dress-up studio. There is a great level of thought and detail put into each individual room-like space. Our kids absolutely loved spending time in each of these spaces and exploring new things.

At the centre, there’s an open area for riding trikes, cars and toy horses, which gives kids a bit more room to move between activities.

For babies, there is a dedicated area called the ‘Boujee Baby Corner’, featuring soft under-the-sea décor and a cushioned floor. It includes books, toys, bouncers and small climbing equipment, plus a nearby bench so parents can sit with a coffee while keeping a close eye on their little ones.

The entire space feels clean, calm and very intentional, with a strong focus on imaginative play.

Facilities for Parents and Caregivers

There’s plenty of seating throughout, along with high chairs and spaces suited to small groups or catch-ups. There is white picket fencing that divides the play space from the cafe area, but it isn’t blocked off from the play space.

Prams can be parked near the entrance, although space is a little limited, so it’s worth keeping that in mind during busier sessions. There are cubicles for shoes and bags, and shoes must be removed upon entry.

There is a change table and sink for little ones hidden away from the play space, and additional bathroom facilities are located just around the corner within the shopping centre.

If you need to do some last-minute gift shopping, there is also a small gift area to browse, with books, bibs, bottles, and toys available for purchase.

Food & Coffee

The café offers a solid range of options, including coffee, tea, hot chocolates, smoothies and babycinos (an absolute hit with my toddler).

Food includes sandwiches, toasties, bagels, waffles, picky plates, yoghurt bowls and kids’ lunch boxes. It’s a nut-free space and caters well to dietary requirements, with gluten-free and dairy-free options available, and the team are happy to assist with other needs where possible.

Everything is well priced, making it easy to settle in for a relaxed visit.

Sessions

The Little Village Collective

The Little Southern Village runs three sessions daily, each lasting 1 hour and 45 minutes, which works well for planning around naps and school drop-offs, etc.

At the end of each session, children are encouraged to help with pack-up before the team resets and sanitises the space, ensuring everything is fresh and clean for the next group.

You can book online and view pricing via their website.

Kids Parties

The Little Southern Village also runs kids parties, leaving the hassle of organising and catering to the experts knowing that dietaries are catered for. There are a few different options available, which can be viewed here.

  • Fantastic imaginative play zones with lots of variety
  • Dedicated baby area that feels safe and separate
  • Great for mixed ages (0–7)
  • Easy, relaxed environment for parents and caregiver catch-ups
  • Friendly team and thoughtful overall concept

The Little Southern Village is a gorgeous addition to Adelaide’s play café scene, particularly for families with younger children. It’s the kind of place you’ll find yourself returning to – especially on those too hot, too cold or rainy days when you just need to get out of the house.
