Van Gogh Alive in Sydney

The worldโ€™s most visited multi-sensory experience is coming to Sydney for its Australian premiere season.

Presented in over 50 cities, Van Gogh Alive is the most visited multi-sensory experience in the world. The Vincent van Gogh exhibition forgoes the ideas of traditional museums and the notion of “tiptoeing” through silent art galleries viewing art with afar, and instead changes how you engage with art.

While it has already toured many major cities around the world, the creators are Australian and will now be bringing it home. Originally planned to open in Melbourne, where Grande Exhibitions are based, sadly due to ongoing Coronavirus restrictions in Victoria, the exhibition is now set to debut in Australia in Sydney in September 2020.

The exhibition utilises a vibrant symphony of light, colour and sound, combined and amplified to create what visitors describe as โ€œan unforgettable multi-sensory experienceโ€. The family friendly experience will allow visitors to wander throughout the space, exploring nooks and crannies, and engaging with the experience in a unique way. Imagine walking through ‘The Starry Night’ and ‘Sunflowers’, being immersed in Van Gogh’s most popular artworks.

The display contains more than 3,000 Van Gogh images at an enormous scale synchronised to a powerful classical score. The projections fill giant screens, walls, columns, ceilings and even the floor, in a scale the size of more than 30 IMAX cinema screens.

This is a chance to explore the work and life experiences of this prolific artist during the period 1880 to 1890. Interpret his thoughts, feelings and state of mind during his time in Arles, Saint Rรฉmy and Auvers-sur-Oise, the locations where he created many of his timeless masterpieces.

See the works in hyper-fine detail, with special attention paid to key features, allowing you time to study color and technique. Photographs and video have also been augmented with Van Goghโ€™s works to demonstrate his sources of inspiration.

The experience will be presented in a COVID-safe environment. See the Van Gogh Alive Sydney Facebook page for updates.
