South Australian paediatric palliative care charity, the HAS Foundation, will host its annual ‘Walk With a Pal’ event in 2024 marking 10 years of raising money for children in palliative care.
The HAS Foundation’s annual ‘Walk With a Pal’ event invites families, friends, and supporters to get together to honour the memories of loved ones while raising essential funds for children in palliative care. It’s a community walk from Henley Beach to Grange and back, raising funds for kids and families in the Paediatric Palliative Care Service at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
2024 marks the 10th anniversary since the charity’s founders, Ella and Jarrod Stratton, said goodbye to their beloved son, Hunter. They have since raised more than $1.3 million for the cause—an incredible contribution that has provided support, love and care to hundreds of families using the paediatric palliative care service.
The event kicks off from Henley Square at 9:30am on Sunday 10 November 2024, where many people from the community are expected to join the annual walk. The walk itself will begin at 10:00am.

Hunter’s Story:
Ella and Jarrod lost their beautiful boy Hunter 3 years ago at age 12. After a normal pregnancy and delivery, Hunter had his first seizure at just 8 weeks of age. Doctors were never able to clearly diagnose the cause of Hunter’s illness, and told his parents he was unlikely to reach his first birthday. As unexpected and challenging as this news was, Hunter’s resilience defied the odds and he lived and loved life until he was nearly 12-years-old thanks, in large part, to their amazing paediatric palliative care provider.
For the last 3 years of his life, Hunter was under the care of the Palliative Care team at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide. To admit that they needed palliative care for Hunter was one of the hardest decisions that Ella and Jarrod had to make, but once they started to receive the care from the team, it was an enormous relief.
