Australian Music Icon Performs 100-year ANZAC Tribute with Westminster Students
Iconic Australian singer-songwriter and former Redgum frontman John Schumann will perform with Westminster School students in August as part of a special tribute concert to honour the Anzac Centenary.
Musician Hugh McDonald (ex-Redgum) and Actress Celine McInerney will also take part.
The Anzac Centenary marks 100 years since Australia’s involvement in the First World War.
Westminster’s annual Music Night – incorporating music, dance and drama – will be held on Thursday 13 August in the School’s state-of-the-art Michael Murray Centre for Performing Arts.
Around 800 people are expected to attend this year’s event, titled When the War is Over.
Accompanied by Westminster’s award-winning student concert band and big band, vocal jazz ensembles, string ensembles and choirs, Mr Schumann and Mr McDonald will perform a series of arrangements including Redgum’s chart topping hit “I Was Only 19”.
Ms McInerney will present a moving narrative during John and Hugh’s performance. Westminster’s Year 12 Drama students Dance Collective group will also perform.
“We are thrilled to have three such high-calibre musicians and performers accompanying our students in what will be a special tribute to the 100-year anniversary of the Anzac landing in Gallipoli,” said Westminster School Principle Mr Steve Bousfield.
“Our students and Head of Performing Arts Mike Degenhart have been working hard to bring together what will be an exceptional night of music, dance and drama. Tickets to our annual Music Night are always highly sought-after – this year will be no exception.”
Westminster School’s Music Night When The War is Over will be held at Westminster’s Michael Murray Centre for the Performing Arts on Thursday 13 August at 7.30 pm.
