A European Winter at the Adelaide Central Market

As the days grow shorter and the nights cooler, Adelaide Central Market is transforming into a winter wonderland, offering a taste of Europe and a warm welcome to beat the winter chill.

As winter approaches, Adelaide Central Market is warming up with an Oliebollen and Apple Beignet pop up, inspired by the European street scenes of yesteryear. And as the sun sets, every Friday night customers can settle in with fire pits, live music and mulled wine.

The handcrafted cart, by familiar face Irene Tredrea (best known from Adelaide’s Famous Poffertjes Parlour) will evoke European street scenes, serving Dutch style donuts ‘Oliebollen’ (fruit donuts), apple beignets (apple fritters), decadent thick hot chocolate with thick whipped cream and mulled wine on Friday nights from 6pm.

The pop up will open every Market day from 4 – 29 June 2024, located on the Eastern Roadway, across from Central
Market Flowers and Angelakis Bros. Seafood.

Founder Irene said, “Our love of European street food started three generations ago and inspired this new venture, and what better fit than to return to the Adelaide Central Market. We love being a part of the Market family and can’t wait to share our European (Dutch) winter street food with customers once again”.

Customers can also enjoy outdoor dining with the addition of fire pits every Friday night during the month as part of ‘Winter Weekends’ on Grote Street, in partnership with City of Adelaide. With fire pits, fire twirlers and live music, outdoor diners will be toasty warm kicking off the weekend at eateries SiSea and Cumbia.

Adelaide Central Market Authority General Manager Fabienne Reilly said the activities throughout the month will provide customers with a unique place to relax with friends, shop and enjoy the Market atmosphere.

“Where else can you sample traditional food from around the world, watch a live performance and find great specials on your household staples like fruit and veg? Only at the Market!”.

The month will also see the arrival of a new Producer in Residence showcasing a Colombian favourite and The South Australian Country Women’s Association (SACWA). Local business, Poderosa, will open in the Producer in residence from 4 June showcasing their traditional stuffed Arepas (corn bread). The return of SACWA will bigger than ever, with the much-loved community organisation returning to the Community Kitchen with their scone pop-up on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 June.
