St Kilda Playground Volcano Upgrade | August 2015

volcano upgrade

The St Kilda playground has been going through a huge redevelopment over the past year. Here is an update from the City of Salisbury’s Facebook Page on 28 July 2015:

St Kilda Playground’s new look Volcano is just weeks away from completion!
Regular visitors to the playground would be aware the Volcano has been closed to the public while new lava slides, bridges and stairs are installed. And don’t worry – the large wave slide has been retained!
The completed Volcano upgrade is expected to open to the public in mid-August.

The City of Salisbury also wishes to advise that – as of today – the Castle will be closed to the public while preparations occur for its replacement. This is one of the most significant stages of the $3.5 million St Kilda Playground Renewal and will see the installation of a new taller Castle with internal and external slides and a drawbridge – and we cannot wait!

The remainder of the playground will be open to the public while these works occur, including the bouncy boomerang, pirate ship, submarine, basketball court, swings and barbecue area.

Stage 1A of the $3.5 million St Kilda Playground Renewal Project was completed in March, and features:

• A new basketball court
• New swings and soft-fall sands
• Improved landscaping such as garden beds and turf
• A drinking fountain to quench your thirst on hot summer days and
• New electric barbecues and park furniture

Important note if you are visiting: Mosquitoes are quite prevalent along the coastal environments including areas around St Kilda. So please cover up or use repellent if needed.
