Adelaide’s First Art Vending Machine

PLEASE NOTE: the vending machine is taking a short break to make way for the opening of Tarnanthi this weekend 19-20 October. It will be back and restocked on Monday 21 October.

The Art Gallery of South Australia welcomes the first Adelaide Art Vending Machine, curated by Art Vending Machines Australia creator Steph Cibich.

The recycled vending machine dispenses works of art and DIY crochet kits by emerging local artist Carly Snoswell. Find it in the Sculpture Courtyard on your next visit. ‘The Adelaide Art Vending Machine’ is the first instalment of Adelaide’s latest public art initiative.

AVMA’s invite artists to β€˜take-over’ a recycled vending machine, responding to its location and contemporary ideas, whilst pushing the boundaries of their arts practice. They offer the public an opportunity to engage with and purchase works of art.

Snoswell’s work examines textiles and DIY craft-making as a devotional impulse fuelled by fandom. These works are informed by Japanese Amigurumi crochet patterns and 90’s Nintendo gaming characters and include DIY kits for audiences to create their own whacky character.

AVMA’s first iteration of the Adelaide Art Vending Machine is supported by City of Adelaide through their Public Art Grant Program.
