Adelaide Fringe 2021 Poster Competition | Closes 12 Jul 2020

The Adelaide Fringe 2021 Poster Competition

The hunt is officially on for the 2021 Adelaide Fringe poster design.  Professional artists, budding illustrators, designers, students and everyone in between are encouraged to submit their entry to the Adelaide Fringe 2021 Poster Competition, proudly supported by their Principal Partner, BankSA.

The Adelaide Fringe Poster Competition is as iconic as the festival, itself. Each year since the birth of the festival, the Adelaide Fringe hero image has been a poster competition entry, with previous winners including artists such as Driller Jet Armstrong, Sue Ninham, Michael Atchison, Pro Hart, Jonathon Oxlade, Jennifer Rimbault, Bronwyn Platten, Mathew Clarke and Dave Court.

For over 60 years, Adelaide Fringe has been forthright, bold and uninhibited; Fringe has provided a platform for hundreds of thousands of artists to express themselves, tell their stories and transform Adelaide into one of the world’s greatest creative hubs.

The winning design will become the symbol of Adelaide Fringe 2021, with the artist receiving a $3,000 cash prize and free artist registration to present their own exhibition as part of the 2021 Adelaide Fringe.

The Brief

Adelaide Fringe is a non-curated, open access festival with over 1000 events across Magic, Music, Comedy, Theatre, Cabaret, Visual Art and moreβ€”they are the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest arts festival. Being open access means that anyone can come and put on a Fringe event (as long as they abide by the T&Cs and the law) If you can find a venue, you can be a part of Fringe.

Fringe 2021 is set to be another burst of colour, excitement, magic and WOW.  During February and March each year, Adelaide puts on its best coat and party hat and transforms itself. Fringe time is certainly not like any other, and they are looking for an artwork that encapsulates the love and pride that the people have for Fringe, and to celebrate the transformation of the city during the best time of the year.

‘The impact of the Fringe is deeply felt by all who attend,’ says Fringe Director and CEO, Heather Croall, ‘The COVID pandemic has brought a lot of uncertainty for people, and so arts and creativity are now more important than ever. Fringe truly feeds the soul and breathes light into dark times.’

Poster Design Tips

The winning design will need to demonstrate flexibility in a number of different ways. This includes:

  • Being able to be reproduced in different sizes as well in monochrome (black and white).
  • The design must have the versatility to be used in a number of creative applications, including t-shirts, posters, program booklets, banner signage and FringeTIX box offices.
  • If you use any images you haven’t created yourself you must own the copyright for the images or have permission to use them in your design.

Remember to treat the poster brief as guidelines only. Thinking outside the box is relished and encouraged!
